What do you mean by "plural"?: That's a great question, website viewer! And one that doesn't have a completely straightforward answer!

In general, "Plural" or "Plurality" refers to a person whose brain contains multiple distinct personalities. This can be for a number of reasons, but a common one is having DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder).

What are "Headmates"?

A "Headmate" is one of those distinct personalities in Our head. They have Their own different names, personalities, likes, dislikes, preferences, and hobbies! There is overlap, but they're usually distinct enough that people can tell Us apart.

What does "Fronting" mean?

"Fronting" refers to the Headmate who is currently talking through our body. The best way This One likes to describe it is "Imagine you're piloting a Giant Robot. There is one seat to pilot the robot, and a microphone to talk through. Typically, one person is in the pilot seat moving and talking, and they can leave that seat, letting someone else take over". There is also something called "Co-Fronting" where multiple Headmates are fronting. Just imagine someones driving the Robot and someone's talking over their shoulder into the mic.

What is "Switching"

"Switching" is the acting of changing who is Fronting. This One can sometimes switch on command, but it can give Us headaches. A lot of times, a Headmate can Switch when something They like is on (Music They enjoy, Their favorite shows, etc.), but sometimes it just happens randomly.

How do I tell you apart?

We will usually append an emote before our text to indicate who is speaking OwO

What's it like being plural?

Oh, another amazing quuestion!!

To be very clear up front, This One's description of Plurality is going to be different from another System's. Pluralirty and it's specific experience is unique to everyone affected by it, so you should make sure not to assume what This One is about to describe is universal.

For Us, Plurality is a relatively open experience. A lot of our Headmates are distinct enough in their personalities, speech patterns, interests, and voices to be recognized by Our loved ones. We tend to share a core belief system and recognize our loved ones and how they prefer being treated. We do experience Memory Gaps, where one Headmate may remember a fact or experience, and Another may not. This can lead to Us repeating stories or forgetting things We are told, so apologies for any forgetfulness. Our Headmates can talk to one another, and live in one (mental) space They share. They have their own relationships to one another, and are all Sisters (Hence the system name). We still discover new Headmates occasionally, so check back every now and then if you recognize an emote you don't recognize.
